Our classroom is our large dining room!

My dining room is my classroom, equipped with school supplies, a photocopier, and the innovative use of a large tv as a whiteboard. I keep this space clean, quiet, comfortable, and free from distractions, so that the student can focus on our studies together.  This is also where I review students’ quizzes and tests, so that I can assess their needs and strengths in order to prepare my lesson ahead of our session.

I enjoy working and teaching from home, because I know what my resources and where they are located.  When I am expecting company, I spread out a nice tablecloth and set the table.  When I am expecting a student, I put the placemats away and bring out the stationery.  I send my dog to a different room and bring him out to socialize later.

If it makes a parent or student more comfortable, I am happy to work in one of the Maplewood Memorial Library study rooms; however, those are first come, first served, so a quiet space is not guaranteed.  I muchly prefer meeting at my home.

Would you work from home if you could choose? How do you keep your work and home spaces separated or transitional?
